Short answer: Salla and Zid cost almost the same: both have a free plan, and their first two paid plans are SAR 99 and SAR 299 a month. Both now onboard merchants in Oman. Choose Salla for the biggest Arabic theme and app ecosystem, Zid if you also sell in a shop and want one POS and dashboard. Shopify suits brands selling beyond the Gulf, but in Saudi Arabia and Oman it adds a fee on every order. WooCommerce is for owning everything and maintaining it yourself.

Why another Salla vs Zid comparison?
Most comparisons online were written for Saudi Arabia only, many repeat outdated claims (for example that Zid has no free plan, while Zid's official pricing page shows a free "Starter" plan today), and few link to a source. This one follows three rules:
- Every price comes from the platform's own pricing page or help centre, with the link and the date we checked it.
- If a platform does not publish a number (payment fees per card type, for example), we say so instead of guessing.
- It looks at the decision from a merchant in Saudi Arabia and Oman, not one market.
Naqla builds stores on Salla, Zid and WooCommerce. We take no commission from any platform.

| Salla | Zid | Shopify | WooCommerce | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free plan | Basic | Starter, free for life | No: 3-day trial, then USD 1/month for 3 months | The plugin is free |
| First paid plan | Plus: SAR 99/month or SAR 990/year | Launch: SAR 99/month | Basic: USD 27/month, or USD 19/month billed yearly | No plans; you pay hosting and extensions |
| Top published plan | Pro: SAR 299/month or SAR 2,990/year | Growth: SAR 299/month | Grow USD 72 (54 yearly); Advanced USD 399 (299 yearly) | — |
| Enterprise | Special, negotiated | Professional, contact sales | Plus from USD 2,300/month | — |
| Extra fee per order | Salla says no platform commission on sales; gateway fees are separate | Payment fees vary by plan; no figures published | 2%, 1%, 0.6% or 0.2% by plan when using a third-party gateway | None from WooCommerce |
| Online card payments | Plus and above | "Advanced payment methods" from Launch | Via a third-party provider in KSA and Oman | Any gateway with a plugin |
| Custom CSS | Pro only | Growth and Professional | Theme code editing | Full |
| VAT and ZATCA link | Pro | Invoice and tax settings from Growth | Via apps | Via plugins |
| Custom domain | Plus and above | Launch and above | Yes | Yes, in your name |
Two things the tables elsewhere usually miss:
- Salla is more expensive inside the iPhone app. Salla's help centre lists Plus at SAR 129 and Pro at SAR 389 a month when bought in the iOS app, because of Apple's fee of up to 30%. Subscribe in a browser.
- Shopify prices depend on your country. The figures above are from Shopify's Saudi page; the UAE page shows different numbers. We found no Oman-specific pricing page, so Omani merchants see their price at sign-up.
Salla vs Zid: where the real differences are
Free plans
Salla Basic gives unlimited products and orders but no online payments, no custom domain and no theme choice, according to Salla's own comparison table. Zid Starter is similar: unlimited products and orders with "basic payment methods (bank transfer, cash on delivery)". Both free plans are for testing. If your customers expect mada and Apple Pay, budget for a paid plan.
The SAR 99 tier
Salla Plus unlocks online payments, a custom domain and theme customisation, but SEO tools, CSS/JS editing and the ZATCA connection sit in Pro. Zid Launch unlocks a custom domain and advanced payment methods, while invoice and tax settings and custom CSS sit in Growth. A VAT-registered Saudi business will usually end up on the higher tier on either platform.
Team access
Zid publishes seat counts: 1 user on Starter and Launch, 5 on Growth, 20 on Professional. Salla lists staff account management as a Pro feature. Give designers and marketers their own staff login with limited permissions; never share your owner password.
Ecosystem
Salla has a theme store with more than a hundred themes, the Twilight engine for custom themes, and a large app store. Zid promotes its POS app for phone and tablet, its Mazeed marketplace and its own shipping and payment services.

Shopify in Saudi Arabia and Oman
Shopify's admin is available in Arabic and it is excellent for cross-border selling. But one fact changes the maths in most of the Gulf: Shopify Payments is not available in Saudi Arabia or Oman. Shopify's list of supported countries includes the UAE as the only GCC country. Everywhere else you connect a third-party gateway and Shopify charges an extra 2% (Basic), 1% (Grow) or 0.6% (Advanced) on each order, on top of the gateway's own fee.
Worked example: a store selling SAR 20,000 a month on Basic pays Shopify about SAR 400 a month in extra fees, roughly SAR 4,800 a year, before the subscription and before gateway fees.
Shopify earns that money when you sell to Europe or North America, need apps that only exist there, or your team already runs it.
WooCommerce: full ownership, real running costs
WooCommerce is free, but WooCommerce's own pricing page estimates hosting at USD 25–350 a month for most stores and paid extensions at USD 29–299 a year each.
- You own the code, the data and the hosting account.
- No platform fee on sales, and no limits on features such as bookings or subscriptions.
- Updates, backups and security are your responsibility.
- WooPayments is not available in Saudi Arabia or Oman (country list), so you install a local gateway plugin. In Oman, community-built Thawani plugins exist, including an open-source one on WordPress.org; they are not published by Thawani, so test them properly.
Selling from Oman: what each platform supports
- Salla: yes. Salla's guide to verifying your store in Oman (updated 20 October 2026) asks for a valid commercial registration and an Omani bank account in Omani rials with an IBAN starting with OM; online payments are activated after approval.
- Zid: has an official Oman page listing Asyad and Aramex among shipping partners and Paymob and Amwal Pay among payment partners. It does not mention Thawani or OmanNet.
- Shopify: works, with a third-party gateway and the extra transaction fee.
- WooCommerce: works with any gateway that has a plugin.
Remember that Oman's e-commerce regulation (Ministerial Decision 499/2023) requires a link to a bank or payment provider licensed in Oman (text of the decision). Confirm your gateway's licence before launch.
Small print that changes the decision
- Refunds and freezing on Salla. Salla's plan management guide says a first Plus or Pro subscription can be cancelled and refunded within 7 days of activation, and a subscription can be frozen for up to 30 days, twice a year. Useful for seasonal businesses.
- Auto-renewal. Paid Salla plans renew automatically on your default payment method unless you cancel, with a reminder 48 hours before expiry.
- Zid's current promotions. At the time of writing Zid's pricing page advertises an extra free year and cashback of up to 50 halalas per order, "terms and conditions apply". Promotions are temporary; read the terms before you count on them.
- Leaving later. Before you start, check how to export products, customers and orders. A custom domain in your own name makes any future move far easier.
What about the UAE, Kuwait and the rest of the GCC?
Two points matter outside Saudi Arabia and Oman. Shopify Payments is available in the UAE, so the third-party fee disappears there if you use it. WooPayments is available in the UAE for business accounts only. Zid's pricing page lists countries including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.
Which platform for which store?
An abaya store in Muscat with 80 products
Mostly local customers, cash on delivery still common. Salla Plus or Zid Launch is enough to start; confirm in the dashboard which payment methods are live for an Omani store. Salla's yearly plan (SAR 990) is cheaper than twelve monthly payments.
A VAT-registered perfume brand in Riyadh
Needs tax invoices and e-invoicing. Salla Pro or Zid Growth. Pick Salla for themes and apps, Zid if you also run a physical shop and want one POS.
A Gulf brand shipping to Europe
Shopify can justify its extra fees here. Run the 1–2% fee against your expected monthly sales first.
A business that needs bookings, subscriptions or custom pricing
WooCommerce, if someone will own the updates. That is what we build as a WooCommerce store.
First-year subscription cost
Last checked: October 2026. Subscription only, excluding payment, shipping and app fees. Shopify converted at SAR 3.75 per USD.
| Platform and plan | One year |
|---|---|
| Salla Plus (yearly) | SAR 990 |
| Salla Pro (yearly) | SAR 2,990 |
| Zid Launch (monthly x 12) | SAR 1,188 |
| Zid Growth (monthly x 12) | SAR 3,588 |
| Shopify Basic (yearly) | USD 228 ≈ SAR 855, plus 2% of sales |
| Shopify Grow (yearly) | USD 648 ≈ SAR 2,430, plus 1% of sales |
| WooCommerce | Hosting (USD 25–350/month) plus extensions |
Zid's page did not show a confirmed yearly price for each plan, so we used monthly pricing; a yearly plan may be cheaper.
Common mistakes
- Choosing on the plan price alone. Payment, shipping and app fees are usually bigger.
- Starting on a free plan, then finding it cannot take mada.
- Forgetting VAT: the ZATCA connection is on the higher tiers.
- Subscribing to Salla from the iPhone app and paying up to 30% more.
- Moving platforms without 301 redirects and losing Google rankings.
Where Naqla fits
Naqla Digital Solutions is a licensed Gulf company. We set up Salla and Zid stores, build WooCommerce stores, and migrate stores between platforms, always through a staff account with limited permissions. For Saudi merchants we publish three one-off Salla packages on our Salla services page: Launch at SAR 2,300, Growth at SAR 4,500 and Bespoke from SAR 5,200, each paid once. In Oman, our Online Store package is OMR 89, paid once. Talk to us or see our e-commerce service.
FAQ
Is Salla or Zid better?
Neither wins outright. Pricing is almost identical. Salla is stronger on Arabic themes and apps; Zid on POS and unified selling tools. Decide on VAT, payments and team size.
Is Salla really free?
Salla Basic is free with no commission on sales, but it has no online payments and no custom domain. Most serious stores need Plus at least.
Do Salla and Zid work in Oman?
Yes. Salla verifies Omani stores with a commercial registration and an Omani rial bank account, and Zid has an official Oman page. Check which payment methods your Omani store can activate.
Why is Shopify more expensive in Saudi Arabia?
Because Shopify Payments is not available there, so Shopify adds 0.6–2% per order depending on the plan, on top of gateway fees.
Is WooCommerce cheaper than Salla?
Over several years it can be, since there is no platform subscription, but you pay for hosting, extensions and maintenance. For a small team with no developer, Salla or Zid is usually simpler.
